Sylvaner (Johannisberg)
The grape variety adapted to Valais soil.
Sylvaner (known as Johannisberg in Valais) is a famous Austrian grape variety that grows easily in the shaly, gravelly soils to be found all over Valais.
It is characterised by a fruity, floral nose, with aromas of almonds. In the mouth, it is a fine, dry, very round wine. More complex than a Chasselas (Fendant), Sylvaner is also perfect with appetisers.
A little secret about Sylvaner: it is the ideal wine for pairing with dishes featuring Valais asparagus.
