In 1992, he left the family business in Salgesch to live his dream in Switzerland's leading wine town, Sierre. He and his wife took over the Cave Vieux Villa, which dates back to 1867.
The winery's pride and joy is the set of hundred-year-old barrels in its vaulted cellars. Even now, its red wines are still aged in these superb examples of the cooper's art.
For some time, their son Tobias has been making the wines and, with Claudia Schönenberger, managing the business, bringing creativity and innovation to traditional, small-scale production. Tobias has also been making wines in Spain for a few years. He combines both cultures, featuring some Spanish wines on his order form.
